The inaugural MQ Student Writers’ Festival was scheduled to run as a live event at Macquarie University’s North Ryde campus in August 2021 but the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in Sydney prevented its occurrence. Rather than cancel the event, we decided to run it as an online event that would create a learning experience for students in communicating their literary research to the general public.
The MQ Student Writers’ Festival was transformed into a special PACE (Professional And Community Engagement) internship activity involving the following activities for our undergraduate Creative Writing and English Literature students that are featured on this site.
This is the first time our students have engaged in such activities. Those who recorded the podcasts were understandably nervous but are justifiably proud of the results.
We hope you enjoy the stories in The Quarry and the following podcasts as much as the students enjoyed producing them!

- Students majoring in English literature recorded interviews with authors and produced podcasts based around contemporary themes and issues in Australian Young Adult fiction.
- Creative Writing students produced an issue of Macquarie University’s literary magazine, The Quarry.
