On Thursday 28th March 2019, the Department of English held its annual Academic Award Ceremony. The awards showcased some of our highest achieving English Literature and Creative Writing students. The event was well attended by students, staff members of the Department of English, and friends and family of the award recipients. In total, ten awards were handed out across a variety of areas – from outstanding work in Australian literature, to aesthetics, to academic achievement in units with substantial medieval content, to excellence in the English Master of Research Program (MRes). The ceremony featured two fantastic readings – one by Aileen Westbrook, the other by Imogen Nutting – both of whom are students of Creative Writing in the Department. At the conclusion of the official award ceremony, staff, award recipients, and others in attendance stayed on for refreshments and further discussion. The Department of English would like to thank all those who attended and we look forward to the 2020 award ceremony.
